The West End of Allentown Is Perfect For Raising Your Family

If you are looking for a vibrant neighborhood perfect for raising a family the West End in Allentown may be the perfect choice for you.

Equal parts urban and suburban, the West End has all the culture and neighborhood living of a city with trees and yards straight out of the suburbs. Right in the center of the Lehigh Valley, this quaint and lively neighborhood may be just what your family needs.

The History

The West End in Allentown was established 100 years ago when city residents wanted more green in their lives as well as homes with yards. Within a short time hundreds of homes were built as well as the beloved 19th Street Theater, which still operates today. Since then the neighborhood has grown into a vibrant community in the heart of the Lehigh Valley.

The Neighborhood

The West End is defined by its beautiful tree lined streets. Residents are always traversing the neighborhood by foot on the neatly paved sidewalks with dogs and kids. The population is very diverse with residents spanning generations with many active in their community.

The neighborhood is made up of a mix of homes from townhouses from the 1930s to 1960s Mid-Century Modern style homes.

Businesses

One of the perks of living in the West End is the proximity to an amazing selection of eclectic local businesses. There are specialty businesses and a dozen restaurants within the neighborhood mainly lining 19th Street. The neighborhood also has its own movie theater as well as a number of performance spaces for local artists and artisans. You will certainly never be bored!

Community

The West End community is a tight one with fun family friendly events and activities happening throughout the year including a farmers market, 5K races, West End World of Food Festival, Allentown Artsfest and the Great Allentown Fair. Even when there isn’t a big event happening there is always a smaller event or volunteer event somewhere.

Location

Allentown is also a great location if you have to commute to other parts of the Lehigh Valley for work. The city is centrally located making it a short drive to just about anywhere. It is close to the airport as well as Bethlehem making it ideally located for those times when you need to leave Allentown.

The West End itself is also close to downtown Allentown where you will find a host of other great parks and businesses.
